"Nativity Shrine II"The following is printed on the back of the Christmas card design ZMBNA2.This shrine depicts a diorama representing the universe. As the inn has become a symbol of rejection in the Nativity narrative, the stable, or cave, becomes the symbol of reception. From within, Mary and Joseph joyfully introduce the Christ Child to the children from many countries. Light seems to be radiating from the Child, reminding us that He is the Light of the World. The shepherds, and King Balthazar on a white horse, are seen on the rear wall. He points to the star, a gold embroidered cross edged in red, foreshadowing the crucifixion. The heavenly realm includes two powerful angels who trumpet the Good News, an angelic band and a row of carolers. Hovering above the whole, against the blue-black, star-studded sky is the Holy Spirit, watching over all with warmth and brilliance. |
